Our achievement award, the "Rufus Oates Award" was designed for members of our association only, to honor one of our members, for their outstanding contribution and achievement, in a calendar year. The criteria for the award is simple. Any member who assumes responsibility, and completes those tasks with positive and professional results, will receive consideration for the award.
The award was named after a gentle man who truly cared about Dee Jays, whether you earned a living at the job, or just did it as an avocation. He was a person who cared about you as a customer, as well as a human being. He was just a nice guy!

2010 Rufus Oates Award
Our Rufus Oates Award for 2010 goes to our own Doug Thayer. Doug’s dedication to our group has been unparalleled. Already a Lifetime member, his expertise on our website has made it one to admire. Giving of his time and energy to keep everything up-to-date, he silently has contributed to our success. He has now decided, deservedly so, to retire and be involved from afar. We appreciate your years of hard work and congratulate you on this honor.
2009 Rufus Oates Award
Our Rufus Oates Award for 2009 goes to George Wood of The Memphis Bop Club. George's efforts over the past year, and the past 10 years, in support of our organization, is unrivaled. Along with his wife, Millie, they are both members of The American Bop Association Hall of Fame. I hope you join The Board of Directors in congratulating George on this achievement.

2008 Rufus Oates Award
The winner of our annual Rufus Oates Award for 2008 was Mr. Ray Coker, of Houston Texas, and our proud Vice President. In 2008 Ray was inducted into The Kenny Wetzel Swing Dee Jay Hall Of Fame, and was Dee Jay of the year for a group called "Allswing". He previously, was inducted into The National Boppers Hall of Fame in 2000, and received the "Star Award" for The National Living Legends of Dance.

2007 Rufus Oates Award
Congratulations to our Association Secretary, Sheila Judah, of Columbus Georgia, for winning our annual "Rufus Oates" award for 2007. She has become a wonderful asset to our organization, for her enthusiasm, recruiting of new members, and idea sharing since her election this year. Looking forward to working with you in 2008.

2005 Rufus Oates Award
The board of directors, this year, unanimously voted to honor Mr. Tommy Roberts, as this years recepient of our annual Rufus Oates Award. Tommy Roberts of North Little Rock, Arkansas took over the task of producing the DJs newsletter in 2004. He is also a member of the America Bob Association Hall of Fame (along with his wife, Emily) and is currently the Membership Director of the Little Rock Bop Club.

2004 Rufus Oates Award
This year, the 'Rufus Oates Award', which is an internal award given to the member who volunteers their time and effort in a professional manner for the advancement, prestige and growth of the Association (National Association of Rhythm & Blues Dee Jays) The Board of Directors have bestowed this year's honor on Berni McKenna.Berni who calls Belleville, IL home is the current Secretary for the Association, was newsletter editor for one year and has been a valuable member for the past three years. Berni has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for M. U. S. I. C. Berni's day time job (yes she finds time for that as well) is that of secretary to the Belleville, IL chief of police.

2003 Rufus Oates Award
The board of directors, this year, unanimously voted to honor Mr. Mike Little, of Anderson, South Carolina, as this years recepient of our annual Rufus Oates Award. Mike has been a member of our association over the last 5 years, and been dee jaying for 30 years. He is also the C.E.O. of The Electric City Printing Company, of Anderson.
We're recognizing Mike, with this special honor, for his monthly contributions to our top tens and our newsletters, titled "My Music or Yours". His articles are full of wonderful information, about new releases, of the music we are in constant search of, for our dance communities. Not only does it cover, "The Beach Music" scene, but includes other parts of the country, as well. I'm sure, that what he reports to us, takes alot of time just trying to gather and compile. I look forward to reading his articles, and it certainly helps us discover "New Releases" for our web site. Mike, "Thank You" for you contributions and congratulations for being our 2003 Rufus Oates Award Winner.

2002 Rufus Oates Award
This years honor, as voted on by our Board of Directors, goes to Mr. Dave Roby, of Tampa, Florida. The Rufus Oates Award, is an internal award, for the member who volunteers, their time and effort to make the Association a better place to be. Dave goes back to the beginning of the Association, when a need existed for a National communications network among dee jays. The idea was to share with others those songs that were working in their dance community.
This past year Dave has not only filled his role as our secretary/treasurer, but has done a wonderful job, of presenting our monthly top tens, in a timely fashion. This part of our communications network requires the gathering and compiling of our efforts, eight times a year, printing and mailing them out, so that we are better at what we do. In my opinion, this award, has long been overdue, since he's been working his fanny off since the inception of our growing organization.

2001 Rufus Oates Award
This years award goes to the President of our Association, Tom Polzin. As the inputs for this years award were reviewed, it became obvious that there was only one person this past year that truly met the criteria for this annual Association award. To best summarize why we, the board members, voted the honor our President with this award we present a few of our comments about him for all to see.
I can tell you that Tom is the first President we have had to really take charge and get things done. I feel like we finely have a leader in charge and not a follower. Tom puts forth a huge effort. He seems to be more involved than any previous president. I feel he does believe in the Association totally. Tom has great ideas and has done a wonderful job promoting the Association. He worked very hard to bring our first CD project to a really.
Tom seems to be always involved in, and trying to involve all of us in, ideas that will place or spotlight our Association somewhere into the music world. Tom always asks for input on ideas he is working on, and is continually fine tuning them, as the comments come in. I feel our Association is more forward motivated because of Tom’s efforts. Tom’s optimism and his inherent drive to tackle a job and not quite till it’s done is way I voted for him. Our Association has grown by leaps and bounds as a direct result of Toms efforts over the past couple years.
Tom’s energy, perseverence and infectious attitude about the Association lights a little spark in each of us. Tom’s leadership has put our name out front for all to see.

Now to honor the first recepient, for the year 2000, the board of directors unanimously agreed, that the honor goes to Mr. Gary Jones of Jacksonville, Florida. His outstanding effort, as our newsletter Editor and Webmaster, on such short notice, was all done with a positive and professional enthusiasm that couldn't be denied. Gary congratulations for being our first honoree of this new award, and thanks again for your outstanding effort.
